Benjamin Landless was an American newspaper magnate. He sought to acquire trans-global newspapers and publish conservative content, and one of the newspapers that he owned was The Chronicle in Britain. In 1991, he was persuaded by Conservative Party chief whip Francis Urquhart to dump Prime Minister Henry Collingridge in order to save the Conservatives from electoral disaster, and Landless agreed to publish Mattie Storin's article about Collingridge's low polling (the Tories were down by 30 points due to Collingridge's unpopularity, as recorded in Kevin J. Spence's report) after having spanked the article due to its defeatist nature.
