It is implied that Evelyn and Claire have a long working history by the start of Chapter 1. This is swiftly derailed, however, when due to Claire's internationalist intentions Evelyn is forced to terminate the contracts of a third of the staff against her will. She is distraught after doing so, at which point she herself is fired by Claire. She leaves the office, visibly distressed. She is seen again in the beginning of Chapter 21, meeting Remy Danton.
