The first inauguration of Frank Underwood as the 46th President of the United States took place on Thursday, October 30th, 2014. The inauguration marked both the end of Garrett Walker's presidency, and the commencement of Frank Underwood's first term as President.
Underwood's inauguration was the tenth intra-term inauguration, where the Vice President of the United States succeeded to the presidency. He was also the second person to be sworn in as President, since Gerald Ford, who was neither elected to the vice presidency nor the presidency.
Background[]
The 45th President of the United States, President Walker, resigned the presidency after successive scandals of his administration, being the second president to do so after Richard Nixon. Two days before resigning, Walker left for Camp David, this was the first time in history where a U.S President choose to resign from Camp David. It is also the first time where a President has been inaugurated at Camp David.
Former President Walker and his family, including former First Lady Tricia Walker, were accompanied by the newly inaugurated President Underwood, to their helicopter that took them to their home in Denver, Colorado.
