The Sentinel

The Sentinel

The Sentinel is one of the most prestigious military academies in the United States. Founded in 1842, this military school boasts some of the most decorated individuals in the United States Military. Per its code, The Sentinel instills a sense of pride, duty and service in its students. One of the most notable graduates of this school is former President Frank Underwood, who has stated on many occasions that The Sentinel is largely responsible for making him the man he is today. Underwood was a member of a group known as the Riflemen Singers, which included fellow students Tim Corbet, Ken Caswell and Phil Langdon. Underwood continued to serve on the Board of Visitors for the school since 1994.

In 2013, The Sentinel commissioned a new library to replace the aging one on campus. This new building was named the Francis J. Underwood Library in honor of then Congressman Underwood who was considered one of the Academy's most accomplished students. Though by Frank's own admission, he was not a great student, the President of the academy only contacted him to secure the donation for the library from Sancorp.
