The United States presidential election, 2012 is a political event which took place on November 6, 2012. During that day the President of the United States and Vice President of the United States were selected. Garrett Walker from the Democratic Party defeated Owen taggart to win the presidency. He was sworn in as President on January 20, 2013. In a United States presidential election a person must get 270 electoral votes to win

Democratic Candidates

The candidates running for the nomination of the Democratic Party were Garrett Walker, Catherine Durant, Jim Matthews, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden.

The main contest was originally thought of as between Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. However, both had been members of the scandal-ridden Obama Administration and, therefore, faded during the primaries. The main contest during the Democratic primaries was now between Garrett Walker and Catherine Durant which was a very close race. Durant won the popular vote, but ultimately Walker won more unpledged delegates and therefore the nomination.

All candidates supported Garrett Walker.

Garrett Walker chose Jim Matthews as the vice-presidential candidate on September 2, 2012.

Garrett Walker defeated Mitt Romney and became president of the U.S. on January 20, 2013.

Republican Candidates

The candidates running for the nomination of the Republican Party were Owen Taggart, Ron Paul, Fred Karger, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Buddy Roemer, Rick Perry, John Huntsman, Jr., Michele Bachmann, Gary Johnson, Herman Cain, Thaddeus McCotter, and Tim Pawlenty.

Both 2008 Republican Presidential nominee John McCain and Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin chose not to run.

Most of the candidates withdrew early. In result, Owen Taggart, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich emerged as the three people most likely to win the nomination and Ron Paul became popular among libertarians.

Owen Taggart was nominated by the Republican Party (by a decisive victory).

He chose Racheal Braun as the vice-presidential candidate.

Mitt Romney lost the election to Garrett Walker.

General Election
